Sure you could bring the typical bottle of wine for the hostess with the mostess…but what about a gift that is cheaper than wine (ok, except for 2 buck chuck) & has a personal touch??!
The idea hit me when I was scouting out the Target $1 bins (are those not addictive??). I found the cutest pink microfiber kitchen towel…for…you guessed it, 1 smackaroo. I love how microfiber feels & thought…this would be the perfect apron! My sister has been really into making cupcakes lately & I thought it would be a great little hostess gift for her.
On a trip to Michaels, I found the cutest ribbon that had cupcakes on them! I know I can’t be the only one that has done a giddy dance in Michaels. (right???) I know you’re probably wondering how all this fits together. Here it is:
$1 microfiber kitchen towel
$4 Ribbon from Michaels
$0 No sew adhesive (I already had this from a previous project, since I don’t have a sewing machine)
Easy & Cheap Hostess gift
Can you see the cute cupcake ribbon? I’m sorry I didn’t get a closer picture….(I’ll try & learn from this mistake :p). This literally took me 5 minutes. I used the adhesive to adhere the cupcake ribbon to the top of the towel. Then, I took the green ribbon and fastened it around the rest of the edges. See…you don’t even have to have a “craft” thumb. Easy & simple & fast!
(Just FYI…here’s what I used…”sewing in a tube”…sign.me.up)
Another bonus about this little gift? You don’t even need a gift bag! See how cute it is….
And…here it is…in use…
Meg loved it! BUT…
1) I’ve been searching since I thought of this for an embroidered “M” that I could put in one of the corners. I may just have to take it to an embroidery place. (The one place I didn’t try was Hobby Lobby, but if you have any suggestions, I’m all ears)
2) As much as I am in love with microfiber…it’s like a static cling. So…stick with a regular towel or another material.
3) You can always just sew the ribbon on or iron it on. I just happened to have the “no-sew” adhesive.
So…what do you think? If I did it again, I’d definitely try & spruce it up a bit. And just remember, show some love to your hostess with the mostess! ๐

Dollar Tree has $1 kitchen towels that would work and not have the static in them (kind of a linen/cotton fabric). LOVE the ribbon!

Be careful with some of the $store towels, bought a couple to do w/magnets on them for my daughters and they shrunk and squished up really small. They appeared to be like the ones I have that don't squish up and need to be ironed … they are okay for just drying dishes on but wouldn't work for apron unless you love to iron. ๐
I love the idea though, using a towel, I'm always drying my hands on the aprons anyway. Thanks

Thanks for the wonderful idea. My daughter and many of her friends are really into aprons right now. These will make great stocking stuffers for them. I am going to add pockets to mine and a ruffle trim. Reminds me of the "Leave it to Beaver" days; which these mid-20 young women seem to be very into (the look anyway) Now………where are my pearls?
