Hey! Hope you’re having a great week!
Every once and awhile I’ll get an email or fb message from someone saying they’re planning a _____ party & they ask if I have any penny-pinching ideas for them. A few weeks ago, a P4P reader asked me if I had any ideas for a Curious George birthday party for her 4 year old.
At times like these, I really wish I had kids. Actually…there are a lot of times I wish I had kids. All in good timing. ;p Anyways…I haven’t picked up a Curious George book since elementary school. But thanks to several Curious George episodes on YouTube, I was able to jog my CG memory.
Here are several cost efficient party ideas for your next Curious George party.
Let’s start off with a FAIL!
In my mind, drawing a Curious George face on a nutter butter cookie on top of a cupcake was easy peasy. Actually doing it…totally different story! First of all, the grocery store was totally out of nutter butter cookies. Gasp! How is that even possible? I grabbed what I thought would be even better…those oreo sandwich cakes. Well…let me just show you what this great idea ended up looking like.
Kinda looks like a bear…a Curious George resemblence? Not so much.
My whole goal of this blog is to do projects that are easy for you , cheap & fast! So, I figured this was a sign.
Keep it simple, stupid!
(I’m calling myself stupid, not you…you’re brilliant :p)
I asked myself, what do monkeys love?
B.A.N.A.N.A.S
(Why couldn’t Gwen Stefani put out that song when I was in elementary school? I would’ve never had trouble spelling that word! Although…my parents probably wouldn’t have let me listen to that song anyways. ;p)
Suddenly visions of an oldie but a goodie candy called, RUNTS came to mind! Yum! I especially love the banana ones. 🙂
See…I kept it simple. I made my own buttercream vanilla icing, used a sandwich bag to pipe it on the top of the cupcake, then laid two banana runts on the top.
It took 10 seconds…while Mr Bear/SupposedtobeCuriousGeorge took 10 minutes!
I didn’t let the other RUNTS go to waste…I used them as fill-in around the cupcake. You could use runts for treat bags for the guests, vase fillers or to line the serving plates.
Another treat that you could make in advance & would give the kids a little bit of nutrition…
Chocolate Covered Banana Pops
I experimented with this recipe, but if you want specific measurements, you can click here. It’s really easy & the recipe I linked to says you can freeze these for up to 2 weeks! Make ahead holla!
I melted 3/4 cup of semi-sweet chocolate morsels in a pot of boiling water.
Then cut a banana in half. (I should’ve cut it in half & frozen it first. I didn’t & it still worked out but I think it’d be better if it was frozen.) I stuck a skewer (you could also use a popsicle stick) in the banana, then dipped it in the chocolate to coat.
Mike & I love walnuts. I love them in my oatmeal, pancakes & raw. We always have an abundance of walnuts, thanks to Costco. ;p So I used chopped walnuts but you can use peanuts, pecans, almonds…whatever you prefer.
After I dipped the banana in the chocolate, I rolled it in the walnuts & stuck it in the freezer for about 30 minutes or so.
This yummy morsel is still in my freezer & I can’t wait to test it out. I’m doing it for you…to make sure it tastes satisfactory. I’ll tell you the Yum factor later.
This next Curious George Party idea is easy, cheap & it took me about 20 minutes, maybe.
Electrical Tape Backdrop
This is all you need…
Yellow Plastic Tablecloth ($1.99 from Party City)
Red Duct Tape ($2 from Home Depot)
I thought I was going to have to measure but there were perfect seams in the tablecloth so I just followed those.
Take the duct tape & go along either the seams or measure your preferred spacing.
Hang it up behind your dessert table or favor table…add some fun colored balloons…and you have a cool looking backdrop for very little $$. If you have a yellow sheet, that would probably work well also. You could even pull the tape off at the end.
