Hey there party people!
Hope you’re having an awesome week so far!
How many of you have old CDs laying around the house that you can’t bear to throw out because ‘what if you lose your iPhone or mp3 player?’ Well, I will throw my hand up in the air & wave like I don’t care because that’s me. I also had quite the collection of VHS tapes laying around for awhile. Hey…you. never. know. I may drop hints every few minutes to my husband that I need a special storage shed for all my junk treasures that I cannot throw away or my Goodwill finds. What a patient man he is! :p
I had an idea about what to do with old CD jackets/covers when we were in Portland. You can read/look at a lot of pictures from our trip here & here. We went to this place called SCRAP that I LOVED. It’s like a Craft Wars heaven! Anything & everything you can imagine to be able to create is there. People donate things to the store so it’s el cheapo.
I picked up a couple CD jackets while there for $0.10/ea. Here’s how to make cards from old CD covers.
While we were in Portland we hung out with the awesome ladies of In Both Ears (my husbands VO agent) & CEM. They gave us SUCH great tips on where to go & what to do. We were so appreciative. Another person that graciously had us over for grilled Salmon (caught the day before…heck yeah) was our friend Scott. I wanted to send thank you notes to the ladies & Scott…and the CD covers would be the perfect way.
I used a free online service called PicMonkey & created these inserts on white cardstock. I allowed a little more cardstock on the top, along with the direction “pull” so the ladies didn’t think it was a prank of some sort. ;p And I kinda hoard stationary (you’re shocked, I know) so I had a large white envelope in my stash. I stuck that baby in the mail & hoped the ladies from IBE & CEM didn’t think I was crazy for sending them an old CD cover thank you note. If you’re wondering, they said they loved it…and they wished they were British! 🙂 I can do a bad British accent. I don’t mean in the good way…I mean…it’s a really bad accent. ;p
And this was the CD thank you note I created for Scott. I tried to match the style of the card to the style of the CD cover.
And there you have it…2 thank you cards that cost less than the stamp! $0.20 for two. I for one love getting “real” mail & something unique like this makes it even better.
These could also be used for a “rock n roll” party! They’d make awesome & fun invitations.
Have you ever made your own cards? Gotten something crazy in the mail? (My friend Kauri’d probably tell you the craziest thing she got was molded muffins from her friend Heidi! ;p Who knew bran muffins didn’t travel so well?!)
Can’t wait to show you some fun Halloween ideas! Coming soon…
Party on!
