Hey party people!
Disclaimer: This is a recycled tutorial from last year but one of my favorite so I thought I’d share it again. Sorry for the old pictures that were taken from the red-headed step child camera. ;p
We all know no matter what your take on Halloween, there’s always lots of candy around. I love me some sweet stuff but too much of it, as we all know, can mean a painful dentist visit.
Here’s a great alternative to candy that can be given as a Halloween party favor, a classroom gift or just a fun activity for you & your child to make.
This is what you need to gather…
Borax (can be found at your local grocery store), food coloring and elmers glue (if you want to make glow in the dark slime, all you need in addition to this is glow in the dark paint).
Chances are, you probably already have a lot of this stuff around the house.
I wanted to be able to package my slime in a really economical way so I used an old container I had, some spray paint and some glow in the dark stickers I found at the craft store.
The only thing I’d change or suggest to you is that you use low VOC spray paint. This was just extra I had laying around but I try and only get the low voc kind now.
Here are the instructions. If you want to make the slime glow in the dark (is that even a question? ;p), just add a couple of teaspoons of glow in the dark paint to your concoction (where indicated below).
HOW TO MAKE SLIME
(I got these instructions from Science Bob)
In addition to the Borax, glue & food coloring, you’ll also need – 2 disposable cups, a spoon to stir, a tablespoon & water.
1) Fill one cup with water
2) Add a spoonful of Borax
3) Fill the other cup with an inch of glue
4) Add 3 tablespoons of water to the glue & stir.
5) Add whatever color food coloring you desire into the glue mixture & stir (this is also the step to add the glow in the dark paint)
6) Add 1 tablespoon of the Borax/water mixture from the other cup to the glue mixture & stir
The slime will start to form. Wait for about 30 seconds. Your slime will be ready to play with.
I don’t care how old you are, slime is still cool. ;p
I’m sorry…I forgot to tel you…for the packaging, I just spray-painted the container black & placed a glow in the dark sticker on top. Can I get a smack on the easy button? ;p
Overall, this would make such a fun & inexpensive party favor, classroom favor or just a fun family activity.
Hope you enjoy! I’ll be back tomorrow for a CHEEEEAP & interactive Halloween costume for an adult or child.
