Hey party peeps!
We interrupt the regularly scheduled party idea program for some fashion talk.
You’re probably thinking, “what??” Well, I’ve gotten several emails from you guys asking about where I shop and how I piece together outfits. First of all, I was shocked. Fashion advice is something I never thought any one would ask me about. In fact, I even tried to pawn this off on my good friend Wendy. She has a blog called, ProperStyle and she’s the one you really can get some great fashion advice from.
So…this post about my fashion method or whatever you call it is more like sharing than advice. I’m gonna share with you a few outfits I’d wear for a casual party, for a more formal party and finally a fun cheap fashion project. (Actually, I’m gonna include the project in a separate post so stayed tune…)
Disclaimer: Please do not hold me accountable if these aren’t straight off the runways from Fashion week, slightly out of trend or last season’s color(s). I am just a thrifty shopper that enjoys piecing together outfits, when I have time.
1. Casual Party Outfits
If you’re going to a fall festival or a kids birthday party, this would be a great outfit combination. It represents a lot of what I have in my closet. I usually stick with basic pieces and add pops of pattern and color with accessories. I love that floral purse!
This would fit right in for a neighborhood party around a bonfire. It’s a great statement of rugged and refined, with touches of gold jewelry. (Hint: I’ve gotten flannel shirts from the guys section at the thrift store. They may be looser than a woman’s shirt but you could wear it with skinny jeans or with a small belt around your waist.)
Talk about a great Thanksgiving dinner outfit. The great thing about this outfit is you can recycle a summer dress. Add a cardigan over it with some boots and a scarf and that floral summery dress becomes a warm cozy tribute to fall.
2. Fancy Fall Party Outfits
These outfits would be something you could wear to a dinner party or a formal Christmas party.
Okay…this outfit is completely selfish. It’s something I’d love to wear to a party. It’s unique, fun and feminine.
Peplum is king queen these days. :p The great thing about this combination is if you already have a black skirt, all you’d have to do is purchase the top.
Like the peplum shirt above, lace is really in and I couldn’t be happier! Love me some lace. I wore a lace dress for my anniversary dinner in August and got so many compliments just walking through the restaurant. You can see the dress here.
And of course the little black dress. I love the modesty of this one. You can really make things pop with some brilliant jewelry and/makeup.
These are just some ideas or inspiration for you when you’re trying to decide on an outfit to wear to your soiree.
Now…where to get the outfits. I have to say that I ususally try and look first at Goodwill. I also love H&M, Forever21, Festivity, Lulus and I adore The Shabby Apple but some of those outfits are too expensive for me.
If you like to show your creative side through your clothes but can’t spend a ton of money, I’m going to post a fun little project you can do to create a one of a kind, creative and cheap outfit.
Until then…Party On!!

Thanks Leigh! I’m so sorry about that link. Here’s the correct link. It looks like that dress is sold out though. 🙁 They do offer other alternatives that are similar: http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=36557939. Hope this helps! <3 Heidi

Nicole, I’m so sorry. I’m not sure. This post was from awhile ago. I tried to search it out, but the page isn’t there any more. 🙁 I saw some of those type of sweaters at H&M last year. Not sure if they’ll be there this year, but worth a shot. Sorry Nicole! <3 Heidi
