Hey Party People!
My whole goal for Parties for Pennies is to inspire YOU to create awe-inspiring celebrations while not emptying your savings account. That’s why I love to show off your parties and projects! Not only does it inspire the whole Parties for Pennies community but it also gives you additional recognition for all the hard work you put into it. I KNOW how much time parties can take to put together…then they’re done in a couple of hours. Look at this as a round of applause for YOU!
Today, I want to show you an American Girl Doll party put together by Rhoda Hewett. You’ll love some of the great penny-pinching ideas she used.
Rhoda put a lot of work into this party for her beautiful daughter, Laura and I know Laura must’ve been on top of the world. It turned out wonderfully. Except…that I did hear a funny story about a renegade glow stick that broke in the middle of the night and found it’s way onto the carpet! It’s like a built-in nightlight. ;p
I love how Rhoda used plastic tablecloths to create a beautiful “canopy” over their kitchen table.
The stars and the stripes look so great.
Rhoda had a great idea to have a table JUST for the girl’s American Dolls. The dolls had everything the girls had to eat…just mini sized.
We’re gonna give Rhoda a Parties for Pennies gold star for this beaut! She used plates from the Dollar Store and cut out letters to create this awesome birthday banner. The stars she picked up from Party America for $0.69/each.
No cupcake stand? No problem.
Rhoda used regular boxes covered in wrapping paper to create a one-of-a-kind American Doll cupcake stand. She is a woman after my own heart & used a 40% off Michaels coupon to score the American Doll stickers.
Instead of putting together a goodie bag of candy and small toys, Rhoda taught the girls how to create a no-sew fleece pillow case. I know cutting all those tabs took a little while…so let’s give her a virtual standing ovation. ;p
The girls even got to create personal little bags for their American Girl dolls.
In addition to the American Doll decorations, Rhoda decorated a separate room for the slumber party. This is where the unfortunate glow stick event happened. This fun sign is even making me want to have a slumber party!
Here’s beautiful Rhoda and her cute daughter Laura.
Great job on everything Rhoda! I hope Laura felt really special & loved. And I know an additional thanks goes to her sister Taylor that helped with some of the set-up.

Would like to know how to do the no sew pillow cases. Did she show you that? Otherwise really great party. Some good ideas and LOVE the banner with plates!

Whatever size of pillow you’re using, cut the felt 2-4 inches wider around the entire square. Make sure you have two of these. Cut tabs around the entire forms about 1-3 inches long. Tie one tab to the cooresponding tab on the other square. Add the pillow form before you’ve tied all the tabs. Finish tying the tabs. You’re done! Maybe I should do a video tutorial on this. :p <3 Heidi Rew

Take two pieces of fabric (Recommend flannel). Cut fabirc to size. Place the material pieces on top of one another and cut small slits no larger than your finger in width and length. You will then tie the two slithers (top tied to bottom). Once they are all tied you can stuff with material stuffing for fluff.

Very cute party…How did she do the canopy???? I am having An American Girl Party …Mar2
Heidi Rew says
Hey Michelle! For the canopy all you do is take the plastic tablecoths, cut them in half (length-wise…unless you prefer them thicker), tape one end to a center point, droop it and tape the other end to an outside point. Does that make sense? You could even do this with extra material or sheets. Please let me know how your American Girl Party goes! If you send me some of the pictures, I’ll post them to the Parties for Pennies facebook page. My email is: heidi@heidirew.com. Can’t wait to see them! It will be a great party! <3 Heidi Rew
