Hey Party People!
Happy President’s Day! The day we honor all the gray hairs our former (and present) Presidents suffered over the course of their leadership and the day we get to enjoy the 50% off President’s Day sales. 🙂 Seriously, the job of being the President of the United States has to be one of the hardest jobs ever. Regardless of my political views, I respect the position and the great burden that comes with it.
In honor of this day, I wanted to show you an easy tutorial for Patriotic Streamers. The great thing about these? They’re cheap and you can change the colors to coordinate with any party!
Here’s what you need. I got these from the dollar store. You should also have some string or ribbon, scissors, and tape.
Cut 1 strip of each color the same length. I cut mine 24 inches long. It will depend on how long you want yours to be.
Once you have them cut, fold over so that one end is shorter than the other (like the picture above).
Before you begin this part, here’s a little tip: use something heavy to weigh down the end where the fold is.
Take your scissors (you can see mine are well-loved…I used them for my yarn lanterns ;p) and cut two slits so that there are three “streamers”. Leave at least an inch or so at the fold.
This is what it should look like after you’re done.
Now, use your string (I had some bakers twine) and thread it through the fold part on your streamer. I tried a couple different ways of securing this but the fastest way I found was using double-sided or regular scotch tape to adhere the under-side of the streamers together so that no tape was actually showing.
You could also take the folded end and twist it, then secure with tape and use a needle and thread to string all the streamers together.
You can string them like this, attach them to balloon strings, or even use them to decorate a tableskirt/tablecloth.
Whether you’re having a President’s Day bash, a 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular or a Memorial Day BBQ….$3 for some streamers can go a long way with creating a Patriotic atmosphere.
Use these in any color scheme you’d like for your next shower, birthday party or wedding.
Stop back in this Wednesday for a St Patty’s day ale that is just for kids!
