Hey party people!
Here in the peach state (Georgia), we’re finally getting hints of warm weather. It’s still been freezing overnight so I can’t start planting flowers outside, yet. And by planting, I mean buying plastic containers of flowers and setting them inside the ceramic planters on our porch. This is not being lazy…this is me having a black thumb! Since I can’t leave my flowers outside, I decided to bring them inside.
This is a super simple project that you may want to bookmark for Mother’s Day! For me, it became our Easter/Spring table centerpiece. My inspiration came from this cute little flower that I bought from The Clay Pot a couple weeks back.
If you missed the interview of Joe Jumper, owner of The Clay Pot, you’ve got to check it out. It’s very inspiring & the pictures will blow you away!
Here’s how you can create your own easy flower centerpiece…
All you need are these items:
Glass Vase/Container (you can usually find these at the thrift store…I got mine at Target for $9.99)
Potting Soil
Flowers of your Choice
Fill up 1/5 of your container with soil.
Take your flowers, loosen the roots & arrange them in the container.
Pour in some more spoil to fill in any cracks and cover the flower roots.
Add some moss to the top and add water (just a little bit…you don’t want to soak it).
Add a festive Easter or Spring tag & you can enjoy beautiful blooms no matter what the weather outside is like!
This didn’t cost much money at all & it didn’t take me long to do, either. The glass vase was $10, the flowers $0.99/ea (5 total) and I already had the soil & the moss. Total, it came to $16-$17 with tax. This will last longer than a bouquet of flowers and you get to keep the beautiful glass vase, long after they’re dead. You could add some pretty pebbles to the bottom, then add the flowers on top. You could do this in a long rectangular vase…or even a fish bowl. The creative possibilities are endless!
This Budget-Friendly Project would also be a great:
Mother’s Day present
Hostess Gift (are you going to someone else’s home for Easter?)
Party Centerpiece
Home Centerpiece
Easter Present
I hope you’re able to stop in to Parties for Pennies this Friday because I have a fun boy’s birthday party idea! Until then…party on!

This is so cute!!! I hate giving a plant in a plastic pot but am pretty inexperienced as far as transplanting them. Both of my grandmothers have birthdays in April and this would a great gift idea and looks easy enough, even for a newbie! Just a question, do you just use moss from the yard? It adds such a cute touch. Thanks! 🙂

Laura…you & I are in the same boat. I promise, if I can do this project, you can! ;p That would make a great gift for your grandmothers! We actually have plenty of moss in our yard, as embarrassing as that is but I had a little faux moss left over from the Secret Garden baby shower so I used that. Outside moss may work but just becareful of possible critters. 🙂 I’d love to see pictures if you end up doing this! You can send them to my email account or just tag Parties for Pennies on facebook. Can’t wait to see!! <3 Heidi Rew
