Hey party people!
A couple weeks ago, I posted on Parties for Pennies’ facebook page a question. I asked what would be YOUR wedding advice or tips. You gave some great answers!
My sister’s wedding was this past weekend so we’ve been in intense wedding mode for the past couple of weeks. Last week, I shared tips on how to save money when planning a wedding. Today, I’m going to share YOUR tips/advice about wedding planning in general.
Here’s what YOU said…
These are all great pieces of advice.
This past weekend (for my sister’s wedding) wouldn’t have been possible without people’s help. The bridesmaids were great…family members all helped…even friends lent a hand to set up & clean up afterward. During your engagement, if people offer to help, write their name & number down. When things come up, you have a list of people to contact.
Which leads to Nicole’s advice. Make sure you have delegated responsibilities after the wedding. Make sure you have someone to transport the gifts & cards, take care of your wedding cake topper, bouquet, clean up the bridal suite area (if anyone leaves anything behind designate one person to collect those things so you can get them back to people), and any other important detail.
David Jarvis gave great advice as well. There are so many people involved in a wedding – the guests, the vendors, the family members, the bridal party, etc. Chances are there’s going to be something you do or plan that someone isn’t going to like. Do your best to plan an awesome wedding & let the expectations of other’s go.
“Make it Personal” – This is a favorite of mine. You can try & recreate your pinterest pins all you want but a way to completely set your wedding apart is by making it personal. Include personal touches that are unique to you & your groom. It makes a wedding go from bland to bam!
Jennifer Eber gave an example of her advice. She said she & her groom got married on St Patricks Day so they took their entire bridal party to McDonalds for a Shamrock Shake before the wedding. They were all dressed in their wedding attire & it certainly made for a fun memory without spending a lot of money.
Tony’s advice is great. From the very beginning, start an excel spreadsheet with all the contact information for the vendors and even family members. The day of the wedding, assign someone to be your secretary and hand over the spreadsheet. If a vendor is running late or there are any issues, your secretary can handle the communication.
I had never heard the advice that Nancy gave regarding the duct tape! Great idea for the table legs too!
Of course, last but not least…enjoy it. Plan in advance but the weekend of the wedding, let it all go and just savor every minute. It goes by so fast. You want to take it all in.
Here are some other pieces of advice you guys gave:
“Simplicity stands out!”
Chanda Lord
“Remain calm, keep it simple & delegate.”
Elizabeth Boggs Garvin
“Don’t settle!”
Christy Hulsey
“A wedding is just a one day event. The marriage is much more important.”
Kathy Van Meter Lathem
What would YOU add to the list?
I can’t wait to share with you pictures from Meg’s wedding & why I got in BIG trouble with the venue owner. I’ll probably share those next week but this week I’ll be sharing pictures from Builder’s Floor Covering (Mohawk Flooring) big grand opening event.
Until then…party on!
p.s. This is YOUR official invite to the party… join in on the Parties for Pennies Facebook page, Twitter, and Pinterest!
