Hey party people!
Last weekend was a first for me. I helped design an event, but I wasn’t able to be there. It was the same Saturday as my sister’s wedding. There was one #fail that happened & I’ll tell you about that…but first…let’s see what worked with this mint, pink & gold event.
Here’s my Partyspiration board for the event. I wanted to go with a mint, peachy-pink, and gold color scheme. Builder’s Floor Covering has an absolutely gorgeous showroom, located off Roswell Rd in the Buckhead area of Atlanta, so we wanted the vibe to be really chic.
It was quite the event! Taniya Nayak, host on HGTV & designer on Restaurant Impossible (The Food Network) was there answering questions & meeting people. Builders Floor Covering & Mohawk Flooring even gave away a $20,000 room makeover with Taniya Nayak!
In fact, here are the winners. L-R: Justin (from Builders Floor Covering) & Taniya Nayak with winners Emily, baby Charlotte & Paul.
I can’t wait to see the before & after pictures of what they do!
Builders Floor Covering & Mohawk Flooring laid out the red carpet for attendees.
This is where you see the #fail for the event.
Do you see that gold shimmery backdrop to the left of the door? That’s a 6×8′ backdrop filled with over a thousand gold circles I laid out to create a scalloped effect. I thought I was being smart & efficient by attaching them with spray adhesive but for some reason that gold wrapping paper was not having it. Some circles fell over in the transport of the backdrop, and unfortunately, the day of the event they had some issues as well.
Lesson I learned: If you’re not going to be at an event, keep it simple. That’s not the time to take chances for the sake of a “wow” factor.
Lesson to pass on: When doing a project, try out different adhesives before you commit.
The simple backdrop I did for the event took WAY less time, less money & (I think) looked great!
You can see the backdrop in this picture with Taniya Nayak & Kristin Jackson (from the Hunted Interior).
This is just a simple white paper with a herringbone pattern created with gold washi tape. It cost a little over $10 & had no issues with gold circles falling off.
Kristin (you really should check out her blog…it’s pretty awesome) hosted a Q&A time with Taniya. She’s also been using Mohawk Flooring products in a really cool project she’s working on called Room Service Atlanta.
You can see her pick on the picture above. If you’re looking for an easy DIY project, the Mohawk laminate line is perfect. You just snap them into place!
The tag you see above I’ve been calling a “pop-up tag.” I thought it’d be fun to do tags like this all over the store on different products. You’ve been there before. You’re in a store & looking around but there’s so much to see and it just gets overwhelming. I wanted to add something different to make them stand out & add some personality.
I did some with Taniya’s tips.
Other pop-up tags had a little more personality.
I ended up doing about 20 of these tags to place all around the store.
Enough of the tags…lets talk about something more exciting!
Cupcakes!
(Doesn’t Taniya look like so much fun? If you don’t watch her shows, you should. She’s great at what she does & she adds a lot of fun to the shows)
Gigi’s cupcakes provided us with adorable mini cupcakes.
I created a display for the cupcakes out of marble sample pieces Builders Floor Covering already had. I used clear vases (I got from Home Goods) to stabilize the tiers and added faux flowers & gold washi tape to add some color.
I used the gold washi tape to add some detail to other aspects too…including the vases. The vases I used are old wine bottles & mason jars. I added the gold washi tape to create a gold trim, even stripes.
The wine is set on another beautiful sample piece that Builders Floor Covering had on hand.
O Wine is what was served & it’s a wine that gives the majority of it’s profit to help underpriveleged women.
You can read more about it on their facebook page (their main site is going through some updates).
Thanks so much to everyone that worked so hard on this event!
It was such a grand effort from –
Justin of Builders Floor Covering
John, Christa, Jennifer & Brian (with Builders Floor Covering)
Niki, Amanda, Rachel, and Elise of Mohawk Flooring
Kristin of The Hunted Interior
Taniya Nayak from HGTV & the Food Network

And of course, thanks to everyone that stopped by!
This woman & her son had to try Mohawk Flooring’s SmartStrand Silk rug to see just how soft it is! To see more pictures from the event, go to Builders Floor Covering facebook page!
If you’re in the Atlanta area & looking for flooring, check out Builders Floor Covering & their Mohawk Flooring products.
If you want to create your own photo backdrop, like I did for this event, check back this Friday for a tutorial. It’s super easy & very inexpensive.
Until then…Party On!

Ok I’ve tried to use washi tape as a border around plastic cups for a party I was hosting and they just wouldn’t wrap around the cup straight. Any advice?
Heidi Rew says
It is tricky if the cups get more slender at the bottom. My only trick is to pull the washi tape out the length that you’ll need and quickly wrap it around the cup (but apply it gently). The more I try to make it perfectly straight, the more wrinkles I get. If I gently, but quickly place it around the cup, that usually helps. Trying to get cups that are the same size all the way down helps as well. It makes it much more difficult if the cup opening is larger and the base much smaller. Wish I had a presto-chango magic trick for ya! ;p <3 Heidi

Hi! Love the backdrop. How is that standing up? Is it hanging from something and then secured to the floor or is it attached to a board?
Heidi Rew says
Hey Marlaina! Thank you! It is hanging from my DIY Photo Backdrop. I just taped it to the top, bottom, and side poles. Here’s a link on how to make the backdrop yourself: https://partiesforpennies.com/2015/09/diy-photo-backdrop/. Feel free to comment or email me with any other questions (heidi@partiesforpennies.com). <3 Heidi
