Hey party people!
Ready for a little Fancy Nancy party inspiration (ahem, partyspiration, if you will)?
I have this friend, Whitney.
I got to know Whitney when I was an RA my junior year of college! We had the best floor of girls EVER! We laughed, we danced (even though we weren’t supposed to…it was a pretty strict college…and I definitely got in trouble for that…oops #ifthatstheworstididimokay), and we had some incredible talks. Whitney was one of those people that had boundless energy and someone you would hang around…in hopes she’d rub off on you (or at least a little bit of that energy).
Fast forward to…well, now, and Whitney has some of the most adorable kids & a hilarious blog about what being a navy wife (and mother to 4 kids) is like. She is real. She’s transparent. And she will make you pee in your pants from laughing so hard.
Why am I telling you about Whitney?
Because her daughter is going to be turning 4 and requested a Fancy Nancy party!
I wanted to put together a little partyspiration board for her & give some ideas for activities, favors, and food.

I did create a little printable invitation that you can download, too.
I created it to be a 5X7 invitation. Just click on the link below & print off on white cardstock. Add the information before (with Publisher or other software) or after (with your own beautiful handwriting).

I must be honest…I had to educate myself on Fancy Nancy. Since I don’t have kids yet, I can be kid-gnorant about the things of that world. ;p
But I sure am a Fancy Nancy fan now! I think iridescent is a brilliant word too, Nance!
Here were a few ideas I had for a Fancy Nancy party –
FOOD:
Macaroons (of course!) – Here’s a recipe from Martha Stewart for homemade macaroons
Petit Fours – make your own using pound cake, cutting that up into small squares & dipping in chocolate melts (get these from craft store). Top with sprinkles or other decorations.
Mini Tea Sandwiches – these can be as simple as pb&j sandwiches
Or…you could have a whole “Fancy It Up” cookie station – provide regular sugar cookies & let the girls “fancy” them up with icing & other decorations.
DRINK:
Edible Glitter Punch (like the one I did here)
or Pink Lemonade
DECOR:
Hat Boxes
Like this one from Sweets Indeed. She used these in a Paris-themed party.
Use them to give height to your table and as serveware. You could even stack several on top of each other, then secure an umbrella in it like the picture in the partyspiration board. I love that as a centerpiece idea for your food table! You don’t have to have a backdrop or garland with that statement piece!
Streamers – if you were going to do a backdrop, you could use streamers…in a pattern similar to this…
Source could not be found for this. Found on Pinterest.
They use feather boas here but that could get a little pricey. Go the Parties for Pennies route & opt for streamers to create a similar look.
Layer vintage-looking tablecloths with lace & ribbons. Add pearls throughout.
Add a sign that says, Patisserie above the sweets table.
Additional ideas for decorations: Paper Flowers/Real Flowers, White Christmas lights, high heel shoes, set out a jewelry box with jewelry the guests can play with.
ACTIVITIES:
Decorate Your Own Crown (this can double as a favor) – Download a Free Printable Crown & have the girls decorate them with jewels, markers, and glitter.
Posh Runway Show – Let the girls dress up to the max. Turn on some fun music and let them show off their posh outfits! Perfect time to snap some pictures for future memories!
Play “Nancy Says” – This is just a version of Simon Says. Use Fancy Nancy props (like pearls, feather boas, etc) & give the girls instructions. Ex: Nancy says put the pearls around your neck. Put the feather boa on your head. Nancy didn’t say it!
One things for sure…with a Fancy Nancy party theme…everyone is sure to have an extraordinary time!
Hope your daughter has an awesome birthday!
Stop back in on Wednesday for a manly Fathers Day gift idea! Until then…you know what to do…
Party on!
p.s. This is YOUR official invite to the party… join in on the Parties for Pennies Facebook page, Twitter, and Pinterest!

Heidi – YOU are awesome!!! I am working on the post of how her party turned out….but it was fairly splendid. And Fancy. And utterly hilarious. Thanks for all your sweet words – the excessive energy has been rather helpful in chasing my beans all over creation! ha!! I totally forgot we weren’t supposed to dance….oh the fun days. 🙂 (I’ll send you my post as soon as I get it up…hopefully tonight.)
