Hey party people!
Last week, I shared this fun diy gameboard tray which would make a great Fathers Day gift.
Today, I want to show you another Father’s Day gift idea – a DIY Desk Photo Block.
Here is what you’ll need:
2×4 piece of wood (I used pine. Check the wood scrap area of your hardware store for a remnant or discounted wood.)
Saw
Sander (or sandpaper)
Dremel
Stain & Sealer (I used a stain + poly combo in dark walnut)
1. Cut the 2×4 so that you have a block that’s about 3 3/4″ x 3 3/4″.
2. Sand it with a fine grit sandpaper (unless the wood is really rough) and mark the halfway point on the block of wood.
3. Use a cutting attachement on your dremel to create a slit on the halfway mark. My slit measures a little over 1/16″ wide. It needs to be thick enough to slide pictures in but narrow enough to hold them in.
4. Once you’ve wiped it down with a dry rag, cover it with your choice of stain. It may take several coats. If you don’t use the stain + poly, you’ll need to seal it with polyurethane after you’ve stained it.
Now…to add the most important part.
Using an online company, I was able to get my pictures from instagram printed & sent to my house.
I used FoxGram. They were the cheapeset I found but I felt like the quality was so-so.
I printed all the pictures of our family so my Dad can put this on his desk at work & be reminded that his family absolutely adores him.
This is like the poor-mans version of the digital picture frames. Whenever dad gets tired of looking at that photo, he can just pull the one from behind to the front.
Overall, this project took me under an hour to do (minus the waiting time for the stain to dry).
This DIY gift could be used to hold pictures or business cards or even his business title.
BTW: This was my first time EVER using the dremel…so if I can do it…YOU can do it! 🙂
Do you ever notice the difference between a female’s work desk & a male’s work desk? We girls have it littered with family photos, sayings, trinkets, maybe even flowers….Guys have one…maybe two pictures…and it just looks pretty sterile. Is it just me…or is that true?
Hope you have an awesome day! Stop back in on Friday for a fun 4th of July project!
p.s. This is YOUR official invite to the party… join in on the Parties for Pennies Facebook page, Twitter, and Pinterest!
