Hey party people!
I went back & forth whether to post this or not.
I try and keep it “all things party” here on this blog. Afterall, it is titled “Parties for Pennies.”
Tomorrow is a cool day. It’s the day that I promised to ride the ups & downs of life with the man of my dreams…for forever.
If you’d like to see how we threw a backyard wedding reception after our Hawaiian ceremony, click here.
Our love story is not without hurt and pain. I wish I could share the whole story here with you but I think you are probably already glossing over as you read this.
This year, we aren’t getting each other presents because we want to take an adventure trip in the fall.
I still want Mike to know how madly I love him, though. I don’t gush much about him on this blog or on social media so I thought this may be a great virtual anniversary gift for him (without spending any money).
See…I can get selfish. I can get caught up in the to-do list. And oh boy can I get caught up with my phone/online or with work. I can be in a conversation with Mike about something but at the same time my mind could be reeling with a million different thoughts or projects. I hate that. When I start to realize this about myself, I feel bad so I immediately want to do something to show Mike how much I love him. That is usually in the way of DOING something. But…really…Mike just wants me to be. He wants me to sit still with him on the couch & enjoy a lazy Saturday. He wants me to stop work at night so I can take an hour to read. Why is it that the gift he most wants is most difficult for me?
That’s why I decided that I would…
1) Use a blog post (what I focus on so much) to brag about him.
2) Take this coming Sunday (he’ll be on set filming on our anniversary) and put away my cell phone, my computer, any electronics and just hang with mah man & our dog.
This is where you come in. Some times the greatest gifts we could give, the most successful party we could plan and the richest experience we could imagine is in the simple act of caring….of being selfless…of telling another person, “I see you and I want to know you more.”
You know I adore a beautifully styled party but I also adore seeing the beauty in other people and most of the time that beauty is discovered when we love first.
So here is a little list of all the fun things I adore about my husband, Mike.

Thanks for doing this Heidi!!! Just as I was reading this I got a text from sweet husband (of almost 26 years, 9/5 is our anniversary): “Have a good day sweetie”. That’s one of the many things I love about my sweet man. He’s a hard worker, dedicated Dad to our 2 amazing children, so smart and witty. I love his corny jokes and he too makes up songs about all kinds of stuff, his passion for learning (he teaches me and our kids something all the time), his homebodiness and I appreciate, as you are, and am amazed at his love for me. Happy Anniversary Heidi and Mike-so happy that y’all found what God had planned all along: YOUR BEING TOGETHER!!!!!

That is so sweet! My husband and I have been married for 16 years and I think that at times I forget how wonderful he is only because I am too busy with the kids and running around chasing after them. (of course, having 4 boys who are total boys and totally active 24/7 makes me crazy) But I really need to do a better job of doing just what you did in your post. I need to celebrate my husband with words, not just on our anniversary, but ALL the time, for all the wonderful things he is and does for me and our family. Without him, I wouldn’t be me.
Thank you for putting this into perspective! <3

I can’t imagine how busy your days are having 4 active boys! Your to-do list could certainly take mine down! ;p It is true, though…sometimes we forget to make sure they know how truly special they are to us. Thanks so much for your sweet comment! <3 Heidi
