Hey party people!
Yesterday, I showed you 4 DIY Halloween Costumes that are easy on the wallet & easy to make. Today, we’re continuing the EPIC DIY Halloween Costume week with a few more costume ideas.
1 | Mickey Mouse – This is Hudson. He’s the son of my friend, Hannah. Hannah & I have known each other since I can remember. We were at each other’s slumber parties growing up and now don’t live pretty close to one another. I love being able to see her cute kids grow up. It always makes me think of our own childhood days.
To create your own Mickey Mouse costume, you’ll need old crocs (or knock-offs), yellow spray paint, black leggings, red shorts, a white or black t-shirt, and Mickey Mouse ears*. Hannah made this costume last year, with the help of her mother in law. She painted old crocs bright yellow, added some white felt to old red shorts, topped that with a white turtlneck & black tank top and added the finishing touch…Mickey Mouse ears.
*We actually created our own Mickey Mouse ears using black cardstock cut into circles & glued onto a headband.
2 | Hello Kitty – This is Reagan, Hudson’s sister. She’s also the one that had the spa birthday party. She was such a natural. She posed perfectly! Doesn’t she make an adorable Hello Kitty?
The main accessory for the Hello Kitty costume is the ears! I made these using one sheet of white felt (I got at the craft store). I cut two pieces of felt in the shape of cat ears (or at least Hello Kitty’s ears) & sewed them together, then turned them outside in to create the ears. After I glued these onto a regular headband, I created a little bow out of pink polka-dotted ribbon and attached it to one of the ears using a hot glue gun.
Reagan already had the perfect little polka-dotted dress but another option (if you don’t have this) is to use an adult tank top. Pair that over leggings & add a belt with some of the extra ribbon. Add a short-sleeved shirt underneath & pair with tights and black shoes.
3 | Little Lamb – This is my neighbor’s daughter, Charlotte, & she melts my heart. Every time I see her, I always come back thinking…okay…I want a baby…now. ;p She’s got these big beautiful brown eyes (like her mother) and they just get you. I think Mike may prohibit me from going over there for awhile. ;p
You can see that Charlotte seems somewhat satisfied in the picture above, but what you don’t know is that it took me “woof, woof, woofing” like a dog to get her excited about sitting in a costume for photos. I woofed loud & I woofed long…I think it was about 10 minutes total. One of those moments you wish was video-taped. But after that, she was golden. In fact, I got to snap some more pics a little closer…which resulted in the three below.
How to Make the Costume:
1. Get a pink onesie and cover with cotton balls. I used a glue gun to attach them. Leave an oval on the front uncovered, as well as the end of the sleeve.
2. Take some pink ribbon, tie a bow & glue it on the front of the onesie.
3. To make the ears, I used a really thick pink satin ribbon. I folded it over (with the shiny part inside & the dull part outside), drew a template of a lamb’s ear (or what I thought one should look like ;p) and sewed along that line.
4. Leave a large enough opening at the bottom of your ribbon ear to turn it outside in.
5. One one side of your satin ribbon ear, glue cotton balls to cover it.
6. Attach to a hair clip with glue as well as a small pink bow for each.
See…I told you…melts your heart!
Tomorrow, I’ll share some more easy & inexpensive DIY costume ideas…part of our EPIC Halloween DIY costume week.
Until then…Party On!
