Hey party people! Well…I think I’ll call this Flashback Friday because we’re going to do a little rewinding today. Last year, I was so so grateful for the chance to do a feature on the Better Show. It was always one of my favorite shows (I used to work a split shift in radio so it came on just as I was sitting down to eat lunch most days). The topic was the Kids Thanksgiving Table. I shared an easy idea of how to create a kids Thanksgiving table using something most people have at home. To see my feature on the Better Show, click here (or go to the “Video Tutorials” tab on Parties for Pennies home page). Can you guess what I used to create this table?
Two plastic storage bins!
I pushed them together, then covered with a tablecloth! It is the perfect height for kids.
If you don’t have kid-sized chairs, use living room pillows covered with a t-shirt. Once the meal is done, take off the t-shirts & throw them in the laundry.
The chevron runner is regular kraft paper and I just painted the pattern on.
For the centerpiece, I used regular branches from my yard & hot-glued brightly-colored leaves to it. I made extra leaves so that the kids could write what they’re thankful for & attach it to the tree with mini clothes pins.
I also made these name cards that doubled as crayon holders.
If you’d like to make these, just take a styrofoam ball, slice a little bit off the bottom so they can stand up, paint with brown paint, then stick in the crayons to look like turkey feathers. For the turkey head, I just cut out a “head” & “neck” then glued it to the styrofoam ball. Add googly eyes & a mini clothespin.
The crayons aren’t very helpful if there’s nothing to use them on. I printed these free coloring sheets online and used them as silverware holders.
I may have gone a little far with these suckers. Too many projects on one table! :p
I used corn kernels hot-glued to a section of a toilet paper roll and painted yellow for the napkin rings.
And if you’re a kid (or an adult, for that matter) that has to wait on a meal, it’s always good to have a little treat to nibble on while you’re waiting.
What do you do for the Kids Thanksgiving Table?
Have a great weekend & I can’t wait to show you a really fun Christmas party idea on Monday!
