Hey party people!
Family…sometimes you just want to pull your hair out because of them. Sometimes, especially when you were younger, every little thing they did irritated you. If you have a big family, or a Greek family…you probably wish they could use their inside voices more. There are probably times you wished your family was different in one way or another. Then…there are times that you just couldn’t imagine making it without your family. A couple weekends was one of those times in the Rew family.
See, my cousin Becca was getting married in this beauitful white chapel outside of Pell City, Alabama. My cousin is beautiful and brilliant and has a wonderful fiance (now husband) Tony…
…Like all brides, wedding planning is overwhelming and gets expensive. So…my Aunt Sherleen really came through (Mom to Will & Dan and wife to my dad’s brother Jimmy).
Sherleen offered to help my cousin by assisting with the catering. My aunt is amazing at things like this. She’s not a full-time caterer, but she’s had experience in the past. So what was the problem? She had to make sure over 150 guests had food and drinks…by herself..in a kitchen she didn’t know and 2 1/2 hours from home.
Mike & I couldn’t let her do it by herself (along with my Uncle) so we came up a day early to lend a hand. Whew. We worked all day on Friday, then Saturday, but we needed reinforcements. I was trying to help out with other aspects of the reception and wedding (chalkboard art, centerpieces, floral arrangements, etc), so in came the rest of the Rew crew – Meg (my sister), David (her husband), Ned (my brother), Will (my cousin), Dan (cousin), Dad (my dad, duh ;p), Mom, and Clayton (brother).
They were incredible. It was a well-oiled machine. The food was ready in time. The spread looked great.
My aunt pulled it off. She served sausage balls, ham & swiss rolls, chicken pasta salad, hot wing chicken dip, cheese balls, a vegetable tower, and a fruit tower.
As we were all back in the kitchen cleaning, I couldn’t help but get a little emotional. Every family has their issues. Every family can be a little dysfunctional, but it’s times like this that my heart wells up with gratitude for my family. Not only did they show their love for Becca by jumping in and helping out in any way they could, but they did it with humor.

You may not be able to pick your family, but I don’t think I could’ve done a better job of picking them if I tried. Everything turned out beautifully…
Becca saved money on her flowers by ordering them wholesale from a local shop. She picked them up on Friday, and I arranged them on Saturday before the wedding. If you’ve been reading Parties for Pennies for awhile, then you may recognize those burlap and lace runners.
Disclaimer: I am NOT an artist.
Becca asked me to do an instagram sign for her, so I tried to replicate one I found online.
Again…I am no font master but I tried to do my best on this drink menu.
It truly was a meaningful and wonderful wedding. So thrilled for Becca and Tony. I simply adore them and am excited for their future as husband and wife.
Thanks for letting me share my family lesson and their beautiful wedding.
