Hey party people!
Occasionally, I’ll throw in a house-related post, and today is one of those days. I just wanted to share where we found a home for this bad boy…
I found that during a fun Bloggers Weekened at the Nashville flea market. I still don’t know how we fit it in Rhoda’s car for the ride back.
So where did that big beauty go?
In our voiceover studio.
See, my husband and I do voiceovers. You can hear me in this Jiffy Lube spot and here is my husband’s site. My career is comprised of three areas: Voiceovers, On Camera Hosting & Acting, and Parties/Entertaining (+Blogging). All very competitive & tough fields. Why couldn’t I have been a pharmacist like my mom suggested? Oh yeah…the whole science aspect of it.
When we were looking for our first home, there two main things that it needed to have – an open area for a man cave & an area we could put in a voiceover studio.
The house we found had a completely unfinished basement, so we were able to build a man cave and studio.
This has been a hard process for me because the space is technically Mike’s (my husband). Not that we’ve split the house, but as far as decorating this is his area. He loves things dark, eclectic, and manly. So, that’s what we were planning for the studio.
The room was almost complete, but I felt like there needed to be something above the computer. I tossed around the idea of us DIYing a marquee sign, but we’ve got so many projects to work on, the thought felt exhausting. When I came across this Rock N Roll sign for only $60, I thought it’d be perfect. Mike loved it, so the rest is history.
I still kinda wish it lit up. Have you ever tried drilling through this type of material. Think it’d work? Or should I leave it as is?
As for some of the details –
The wall behind the Rock N Roll sign is just burlap we stapled in place. The rug was from IKEA. The Third Day record wall art was something Mike had from when he was on air & the music director at an Atlanta radio station. In order to keep the chaos at bay, I got one of Mike’s old cigar boxes to hold do-dads (Dry Mouth Spray, Small Cords, etc), covered a gift box top with fabric from an airplane blanket for scripts, used an old brewery cup for pens, and let a decorative microphone hold the headphones.
Thanks so much for all my blogger buddies that helped me cart that thing back home! I’ll forever think of you when I’m recording my auditions.
I would say, Party On…but, I think today it’s more appropriate to say, “Rock N Roll!”
