Hey party people!
How was your Halloween? Do you attempt to DIY a costume? How did it turn out?
My Halloween was quite eventful. I had two of my best friends come into town for the weekend, but before it even began, I started it off on the wrong foot.
It had been a discouraging day. Anyone that is self-employed, especially if they’re in the media world (hosting, acting, voiceovers, etc), will tell you those days creep up a fair amount of time. I’m investing a lot of time and money into a really important project and there had been a lot of frustrations with it that day. I haven’t been getting as many auditions lately…blah, blah, blah. Just one of those days.
Then…I had a car accident. First one since just after college. It was just a fender bender, but it was my fault. That, of course, opened up the floodgates of tears and I was a mess.
I managed to pull myself together and get ready for my house guests. When they got here, everything seemed good again…except for the fact that I accidentally grabbed “girls” white tights, instead of women’s. I was scrambling last minute and even had my husband searching for some while he was out. It ended up working out and our group costume turned out fun…
We went as a PARTY! Jenny was the invitation. She actually has an invitation business called Vivian Elle. Kauri went as the food – fondue. Her costume was so cute. She had fondue fork hair picks in with plastic strawberries on the end and even a plastic strawberry headband. I was the party decorations.
I DIYed my party hat. Used my BalloonTime helium tank to fill up some balloons. Strapped confetti poppers to my wrists. Wrapped silver fringe tinsel around my chest and added battery operated lights to it. A blank tassel garland was wrapped around my waist. I created a party popper necklace, had a clapper garter (just hot glued a clapper to a garter), and added disco balls to my shoes. Oh, and I also added some star confetti around my eye.
Our Halloween plan was to grab dinner at Tin Lizzy’s in Midtown then head over to Whole World Improv for their Halloween show and costume contest.
We snagged a prime parking spot in front of Tin Lizzy’s, but I couldn’t manage the parallel parking, so a nearby vallet parallel parked my car for him (I did tip him). I really need to learn the skill of parallel parking. The valet told us we needed to be out of there by 9 or else we’d get a ticket. No problem. Our show started at 9.
We finished dinner and felt encouraged about our costumes because the people at Tin Lizzy’s figured it out. We were running behind, so we rushed out to the car to find…a PARKING TICKET! We totally missed seeing the meter near the car. First parking ticket ever. It was dark, rainy, and we were concentrating on keeping our costumes together – that’s the excuse I’m sticking with.
We barely made it on time to the improv show. It was good, but there was an extremely scary clown and I am now scarred.
At the end of the show, they started the costume contest. We went up on stage, shared what we were…then got booed off the stage. Maybe not specifically booed off, but they said who should we eliminate first and EVERYONE said, “The Party!” I felt like I was in middle school all over again.
…But I did what any mature adult would do…I opened up a can of confetti on them!
Thankfully, the rest of the weekend was peaceful and fun!
Hope your Halloween didn’t involved an accident, a parking ticket, and being booed off stage! 🙂
Party on.
