Hey party people!
Last week, I shared a baby shower with the theme Mamas & Mocktails. One of the last minute details for the party were the balloon tassels. My friend, Nicole from Kate Aspen, mentioned using napkins for tassels when I was telling her all the last-minute plans I was pulling together. She was totally right. They worked great!
One of the ways to really cut down on party expenses is by multi-purposing items. Plates can be used as a garland or as polka-dots on a backdrop. Cups can be used to carry cupcake favors home or for a fun party activity by taping the cups to a posterboard and letting guests try and make a “goal” with a small ball.
Now, you can use NAPKINS to create PARTY TASSELS. Here’s how…
Step 1| The best napkins for this are the “guest towels.” Since 4th of July is so close, I decided to do patriotic themed tassels.
Step 2| Lay the napkin with the fold at the top, then cut 1/2″ slits from the bottom. Leave about a 1″ to a 1/2″ space at the top.
Step 3| Unfold the napkin from the top and twist tightly in the middle. Fold the two ends together to create your tassel. Use tape to secure to a balloon string or to create a garland.
TIP: When using these for balloons, stick with only 1-2 tassels for smaller balloons. The weight of the tassels can pull down the balloon. The larger balloons (like the ones I used above) are better for multiple tassels.
BUDGET-FRIENDLY TIP: This may be a bigger expense up front, but if you have children that will be having birthday parties investing in a helium tank will actually save you a lot of time and headache. Balloon Time has good ones. Getting helium balloons from a store can be such a hassle and can really add up quickly. I love having one handy at my house that can be transported to parties.
Hope you enjoyed this easy, budget-friendly party DIY! Party on!

Angelina…Thank you so much!! <3 I got all the balloons from Amazon - http://amzn.to/1FwAslO. They have the cheapest price. Get a variety of sizes. Start with 1 main color balloon that is 12″ at least. Blow up a bunch of them (I use this & it saves the day: http://amzn.to/1KBUNCf), then tie them together in a line with curling ribbon. Wrap around the backdrop, then add the smaller ones and different colors in between. You can add them by tying them to the backdrop or just taping them (like you would a bow on a present). I’ll do a more detailed How To on it later on. Let me know if you have any other questions! Thanks again, Angelina. <3 Heidi
