Hey party people!
I can’t believe Halloween is almost here. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly costume. Here’s a fun idea…
This DIY Cactus Costume only takes a few minutes to put together and costs just a few dollars. My biggest tip when trying to create a budget-friendly DIY costume is to see what you have in your closet already. For this Cactus Costume, I already the majority of these things. Here’s what I added to my wardrobe to create the rest of the costume…
1| Flannel – You only need 1 yard at most. 2| Yellow Yarn 3| Scissors 4| Chalk 5| Large Needle – for yarn 6| Measuring Tape or stick 7| Safety Pins
Step 1| Measure the front of your waist and the length from your skirt to mid-chest.
Step 2| Draw a line with the chalk the length of your waist measurement.
Step 3| From the center of the line you just drew, mark the distance you recorded from your skirt to mid-chest (add 2-3 inches, so it tucks in).
Step 4| Use your chalk to draw the outline of a cactus based on the chalk markings you just made.
Step 5| Use your chalk to mark where you want the cactus needles to go.
Step 6| Thread your large needle with 2 pieces of yarn.
Step 7| Knot the end of the yarn and thread it through one of your chalk marks.
Step 8| Once you’ve pulled the yarn through (the front side of the cactus), knot it at the base.
Step 9| Cut the yarn about an inch or so from that knot.
Step 10| Continue until you have all your cactus needles.
For the finishing touch, I made a cactus flower headband. I know I’m a little girly, but I cannot say no to a flower in the hair. ;p All you need for this are these few items…
1| Pink Tissue Paper 2| Wire 3| Scissors 4| Headband – I used one I already had.
Step 1| Fold the tissue paper accordian style.
Step 2| Once you’ve folded it up, tie a piece of wire in the middle of it.
Step 3| Cut 1/8″ off either side of the paper.
Step 4| Fan out the folds and pull back the pieces of tissue paper to create a flower. TIP: Pull 2 pieces back at a time. This helps you have more stability while pulling on it. It really helps prevent tearing.
Step 5| Attach the flower to your headband with the wire you added to the middle. TIP: Wrap it so the ends end up on the top. Twist it again and cut off the excess. This will help it from poking your head. Not the most comfortable thing in the world.
