Hey party people!
I hope your Christmas was wonderful! We got a lot of rain here in Atlanta but from the looks of facebook, other cities enjoyed a white Christmas. That is so magical.
We had a wonderful Christmas with our family and friends! I’ll have to do a post just on everything we did as well as my experience cooking my first turkey! (Thank you to everyone that gave me GREAT suggestions on the Parties for Pennies facebook page
)
As sad as it is to see Christmas go, I love knowing that New Years Eve is right around the corner. If you’re planning on attending or throwing a New Years Eve party, this week may be a little frantic for you.
Hopefully this appetizer idea will help inspire you! I try and come up with simple and easy appetizer ideas that are kind on the wallet but give a bit of a “wow” factor. This appetizer idea came from the Secret Garden baby shower Audrey and myself threw our friend Jennifer. Audrey made the most delicious appetizer with little smokies, bacon and brown sugar. I couldn’t. stop. eating. them.
They’re very simple and basic. You take a little smokey, wrap a piece of bacon around it, sprinkle with brown sugar and pop it in the oven. Easy, huh?
I don’t know about your house but my husband LOVES bacon so that is a staple in our fridge. I can see the look in his eye when I have to tell him we have no bacon left. It’s a look of utter disappointment and I don’t want to encounter that ever again.
Another staple in our casa is hot dogs. Again…husband + needing a quick meal = hot dogs in supply. I think we’re prepared for kids, no?
Instead of using little smokeys, I wondered if hot dogs would work just as well.
Simply cut the hot dog in 3 equal parts.
Wrap 1/2 or 1/3 of a piece of bacon (depending on the thickness and length of the bacon) around one of the hot dog parts. Hold in place with a toothpick.
This picture shows that I sprinkled the brown sugar on it. I did. DON’T do that. Instead, roll the bacon in brown sugar & make sure it’s generously covered.
Bake at 350 for about 15-20 minutes. I had really thick bacon but if your bacon is thinner, check on it after about 10 minutes.
My husband tried them and he gave them 5 bacon bits out of 5! He then asked if he could have all the ones I made. I may not be a supermodel but at least I can make my husband happy through bacon wrapped food!
The price wasn’t too bad either.
Here’s the breakdown:
Bacon (I will get Wright Brand if it’s on sale): $7 (26 slices in a pack which would equal 52 apps)
Hot Dogs: $3 (You’d need three packs to equal the bacon) x 3 = $9
Brown Sugar: (Already had but if you didn’t…) $2
Total = $18 (divided by 52 apps equal $0.34/ea)
That’s not too bad for a hearty appetizer. Usually you estimate 2 appetizers per person.
Are you planning a New Years Eve party this year? Planning on attending one? Having your own family New Years Eve party? Here are some ideas I gave last year for New Years Eve.
I’ll be back this week with another dip recipe and you may already have the ingredients around your house.
Until then, Party On!
