Hey party people!
If you’re looking for a fun & out of the box Christmas party idea, how about a Trimmings & Tapas party?
What is a Trimmings & Tapas party? Well, it is a party that uses the theme of “tree trimmings” and serves tapas.
I asked the attendees to 1) wear a bow somewhere (in their hair, on their dress, on a piece of jewelry, etc) and 2) bring a piece of jewelry (in good condition) that they’d like to swap.
Because the theme was trimming the tree, I wanted my guests to “trim” themselves with a bow and since jewelry is another form of “trimming” I thought it would be fun to have a jewelry swap. We all have jewelry we bought but never wear or were given as a gift. Instead of it just sitting dormant in a jewelry box, maybe someone else would dig it. So all the guests brought a wrapped piece of jewelry and were able to exchange it for another piece of jewelry from someone else. Not only is it fun to see the different pieces of jewelry, it was also very budget-friendly!
I decided to use really pretty jewel tones for the party, which kind of went with the theme too. The decorations were kept simple: wrapped presents, wreaths with brightly-colored ornaments, and white tablecloth with a couple pieces of gold material over it.
This party idea was a little selfish. I LOVE tapas. They are the perfect size for me and I adore that I can have a little bit of all the dishes.
Menu: (L-R: Parmesan Potato Slices, Stuffed Mushrooms, Tomato Soup, Shrimp and Chicken skewers)
Additional Menu Items: Mac & Cheese bites and Arugula Salad with parmesan & tomatos.
For the food labels, I used jewel-toned cardstock and added faux jewels with hot glue.
Desserts were also mini-sized.
Hope this gives you some inspiration for your Christmas/Holiday parties!
